Hop Louie has built a reputation for being more than just a place to grab a meal-it's an experience. The restaurant, which has been serving customers for decades, feels like a step back in time, with its old-school decor and cozy ambiance. But while the setting might transport you to another era, the food is anything but outdated. One of the highlights of dining at Hop Louie is its classic Chinese-American menu, which includes everything from flavorful sweet and sour chicken to perfectly crisp egg rolls. If you're in the mood for something a bit different, the sizzling platters are a must-try, with the beef and broccoli being a popular choice. • No frills. Smells like cigarettes. Stiff drinks. Real bartenders not measuring out shots but pouring from the heart. Real people drinking. Juke box playing. Dark windowless room. I absolutely loved it in here. Reminds me of an under ground New York place with out the pretentiousness.

  • I went here in June 2014 and it was surprisingly good! The restaurant is upstairs and the decor is kinda out-dated but it has that old school Chinese feeling. The food was really good. My family and I ate lunch there. They have around a $5.50 lunch special with good portions. They also have non-meat dishes too!

  • Went here often as a kid to celebrate my parents wedding anniversary. (many moons ago). It used to look so huge back then! I have fond memories especially the wishing well around the corner!

  • Cool place, awesome atmosphere but don't expect to be able to go into the restaurant anytime soon. It's been closed since late August/ early September. Rumor has it the owners are looking to retire. Some new restaurant may pop in. Bar is still open downstairs though.

  • An LA institution, the restaurant is closed but the bar is open. Has everything you would want: Scorpion Bowls, dark red lighting, a dance floor and a bartender who will begrudgingly make you drinks like he is doing you a favor.

  • Fun dive bar/restaurant in China town, an institution, one might say. Little changed since it opened in 1986, it will provide a dependable environment. Sound system was surprisingly loud.
